The East Coast Bays RSA is a great place for a few drinks and eats, a game of pool, housie games, raffles, some lawn bowls fun or a bit of pokies action in the Browns Bay area. The club was originally established in the year 1925 and was located at Bute Road, Browns Bay in Auckland, New Zealand. In the year 1997, they moved to a new building, which was unfortunately damaged in a major fire in 2015.

Though the building was refurbished, it was sold. Since then in February 2018, the RSA has co-located to the premises of the Browns Bay Bowling Club. It is now located at 784, Beach Road, Browns Bay, Auckland. The timings of the office are from 10 am to 4 pm from from Monday to Friday. It is usually closed on Saturday, Sunday but this may change so check with them directly for the latest details.

About East Coast Bays RSA Club

The club has several lawn bowl areas which its members can use for playing bowls, even those who have no experience can play a game inside or outside on select days. The members here are very friendly and will assist newbie bowlers in getting started with the game.

On Tuesday and Thursday, members can enjoy a game of bowls between 10 am and 1 pm. On Wednesday night, members can enjoy a game of 8 ball on the pool tables between 7.30 pm and 10.30 pm. On every Thursday games of Housie (bingo) are held from 7.30 pm on-wards where members can play games, have fun and win some prizes.

On Friday, the popular weekly meat raffle and money raffle is held from 4.30 pm on-wards. The monthly woman’s meeting is held on every fourth Wednesday of the month from 12.30 pm on-wards.

The RSA is a non profit community organization whose aim it is help, remember and work for the welfare of those who served the country. It has approximately 1200 plus members including Returned Services, Services, Ex-services and associate members. The New Zealand services include the Royal New Zealand Air force, New Zealand Army and New Zealand navy.

Though the air force, army and navy of New Zealand are not large forces by numbers in the world they were highly respected and dedicated servicemen during battles throughout history and to this day in quieter times of less world conflict still are recognized worldwide as first class servicemen.

The club night is on Friday, when all those who served the country are remembered so they remain in our hearts and minds. The RSA is a registered society and its details can be verified using an online search of societies and trusts, using its registration number of 221526. For welfare related activities, interested people can contact the office on Monday and Wednesday from 10 am to 1 pm for assistance.

The venue also has a vibrant women’s section which organizes various social activities for the ladies. The wives, widows, daughters and grand daughters of a returned serviceman are eligible to join. Members are allowed to nominate a member to the section by filling in the form available from the club or from their website.

The RSA has the Bowla Bistro which serves quality food at an affordable price. The bistro is open on Thursday and Friday between 5.30 pm and 8.30 pm. You can get a nice roast meal or a steak and chips at mates rates (well nearly).

The RSA has full bar facilities with super prices on all drinks.

Other Notes

Every month a welfare meeting is held on every third Wednesday between 10 am and 11 am. Like other RSA in New Zealand, it celebrates Anzac day in April every year with a ceremony which starts early in morning at the war memorial. A civic service is also held. Annually the poppy day is also celebrated to honour those who have served the army. To support the RSA and veterans, people can purchase the Battle, Poppy/fern 100 year, letters from home and other pins which are available.
