Hansan Vietnamese Restaurants are a chain of restaurants which specialize in serving authentic Vietnamese food to customers. During the period of trouble in Indo China, the Chin family fled to Vietnam in 1980. Since the family had relatives in New Zealand, the family then migrated to New Zealand in 1990.

After adapting to the culture in the country, they started their first restaurant serving authentic Vietnamese food in 1999 at Panmure. They named their restaurant HanSan with han and, san derived from the Chinese and Cantonese word “looking at” mountain since the Panmure location of the first restaurant is facing Mount Wellington.

About Hansan Vietnamese Restaurants

The Chin siblings Han, San and jessica started the first restaurant at 525-529, Elleslie, Panmure Highway, Mount Wellington which served authentic Vietnamese food. In 2006 after the first restaurant was very  successful, they started the second restaurant at 55, Nufield street in the Newmarket area. The success of these restaurants led to increase in interest from others, and the Chin family was able to franchise their business, with the first franchise restaurant starting at Unit E, 31, Link drive, Glenfield in 2007.

In 2008 they purchased a Malaysian restaurant Sri Mahkota in East Tamaki, which was listed for sale, and have opened other branches in Epsom, Symonds Street in Auckland of this chain to complement the Hansan restaurants since there is a lot of demand for Malaysian food.

In 2019, the Hansan restaurant chain has rapidly expanded in New Zealand and branches in Auckland city, West Mall, Lynn mall, Browns Bay area. During Christmas these restaurants may be closed for some time. It is possible to reserve one or more tables at these restaurants using the form provided on the website. Menu Items and Eats of Note

The restaurants serves a wide range of food and drink items which can be broadly classified into appetizers, drinks, beef, chicken, pork, seafood, dessert and steamboat dishes. Some of the most popular dishes are Jack fruit shake, Viet Ham, combination on rice, and barbecued pork skewer.

Some of the appetizers which are available at the Hansan restaurants are spring rolls, summer rolls, wontons, chicken wings, pork skewers, chicken salad, shrimp salad, ham, state chicken, pork spare ribs, Vietnamese ham.

The seafood dishes are Cambodian rice noodles soup, prawn rice noodle soup, combination seafood & meat rice noodles soup or egg noodles soup. For rice noodles soups the following variations are available – fish ball, prawns, fish cakes. For fine egg noodle soups, prawns, fish balls or fish cakes options are also offered.Prawn on rice, and stir fried shrimp are also offered

Some of the desserts are traffic light, mung bean, banana sago with coconut cream, grass jelly ice, mixed beans with dried fruits, fresh and dried longan with ice. In addition to Pearl milk tea, fresh lime, ice lemon tea, some of the shakes which are offered are jack fruit, coconut, pineapple, longan, lychee, avocado, mango, longan, coconut. Soya bean milk, orange juice, hot white or black coffee are also listed in the menu.
