History of the venue
The Munster Inn is very proud of its historical origins. It is named after a province that is located in Southern Ireland. Featuring green prairies and lush lawns, this province was once a playground for the ancient, regal kings and queens of Ireland. In modern times, it is the sports capital of this country. Upon discovery, the South Island of New Zealand was named New Munster. This created a bond between the Irish and Kiwi Munster locations.
Munster is also remembered for being the place where the New Zealand All-Blacks lost a match against an Irish side. This was the first and only time that this ever happened. In 1978, the Munster team demolished New Zealand 12- 0. It was the darkest day that the Kiwi team had ever seen.
30 years later, the two teams faced off again. Despite Munster taking an early lead, the All Blacks inched ahead at the last minute as they always seem to do. With each side now holding a win, the sporting bond between the two teams is fiery hot. At the Munster Inn, the patrons often recount this tale as they watch rugby on the big screen TVs right to this day.
