The Commons is a contemporary bar and restaurant located at 21 Hurstmere Rd, Takapuna, Auckland 0622 New Zealand that offers seasonal New Zealand cuisine, live music, and some of the best DJs in town. The bar centers on a very distinct open courtyard that has five well-defined spaces on the sides which share or overlook the outdoor area.

The restaurant is located on the seaward side and includes an atrium that is approximately two-stories long with a gorgeous light installation. Upstairs, there is a mezzanine level that offers more seats for dining and drinks with simply stunning views that overlook the courtyard and there is also a more formal food appreciation room that offers a fantastic view of Rangitoto Island.

The Commons offers seasonal New Zealand inspired dishes that bring the country’s great fresh ingredients to the front. The restaurant menu is designed to give a more memorable dining experience on the lower floor of the commons. The restaurant menu features foods such as steaks, salads, burgers, main dishes like the crispy pork belly and the stuffed crispy chicken Kiev, entrees such as assorted bread with dips and grilled butternut salad, vegetarian specials, sides such as hand cut chips and beetroot carpaccio, and tasty desserts.

The function menu can be flexible and tailored to suit any event or occasion. You will be able to choose between the grazing menu and the restaurant set menu. The grazing menu features several specials such as canapes, sliders, platters, and a variety of differently flavored pizzas. The restaurant set menu features the entrees, main dishes, and desserts borrowed from the main restaurant menu.

The beverage menu features an impressive list of wines and cocktails to choose from. The wine menu features a list of popular wines such as the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, rose wine, sparkling wine, Pinot Noir, aromatics, dessert wines, select reds, cellar reds, and many more. The cocktail menu features some signature common cocktails such as the wallflower, afternoon sunrise, torched rosemary margarita, cask n pale, strawberry shortcake, cheeky collins, and many others. There is also a small list of alcohol-free cocktails for people who don’t take alcohol.

The courtyard is an all-day open dining and drinking that features a bar measuring approximately seven meters long. On the lower floor, a wall of grass lies at the front of the bar and is complemented further by an additional green wall that is located behind the bar which is lush with ivy, bamboo, and other plants.

There are also a few tulip parasols which create a warm drinking and dining experience. The upper floor area has more dining and drinking seats with views that overlook the courtyard and a food appreciation room that is more formal with a clear view of the Rangitoto.

If you want to play pool or watch sport on big screens from SKY Sports, the Takapuna Pool Hall will give you exactly what you need. Located right above the Commons is the Takapuna Pool Hall and it can be easily accessed via the external stairs from the bar or by taking the stairs within the commons. Several pool tournaments, board games, and poker game nights can be played here and the whole space can also be privately booked.

The Takapuna Pool Hall is a great place to enjoy small private events such as birthday parties with friends and it is open 7 days a week from Monday to Thursday from 4 pm and from Friday to Sunday from 12 pm.
