The Smoky Pallet Free House is a bar and restaurant which is located along the main Port Road, in Whangamata in New Zealand. The bar is located at 427, Port Road and is close to the Fire Station. The bar is open from 11 am onward on all days of the week and will close late at night. It is popular as a function venue for holding family, personal functions, and also as a night spot after the sun sets.

The venue has a gaming lounge with fifteen gaming machines so that people can play their favorite slot and other games on these machines. It has large television screens which are installed allowing customers to watch live sports along with their friends. It also has pool tables, so that pool lovers can play their favorite game.

It has a outdoor seating deck, for customers who enjoy eating or drinking in the open air on those warm NZ days. Live entertainment is also offered at the bar and restaurant especially at night. Dinner is usually served between 5 pm and 8 pm at night, though snacks are served through out the day.

The restaurant has an experienced and reputed chef, who has worked earlier in reputed restaurants. In addition to being visually attractive, the food is also delicious with new specials introduced periodically. For functions the menu can be customized based on the budget of the customer.

Entrees available include pork belly, squid, salmon, salad. Customers can choose between beef, chicken, fish and vegetable burgers. The main dishes are fish & chips, seafood fettuccine, smoked beef cheek, tomato tagliatelle, beef scotch & egg, lamb rump. Other dishes include Fries, Wedges, Truffle, Greens, onion rings and salads. The burgers here are the best in the Whangamata area, try the Smoky George burger.

The desserts available are Mud cake, Do nut island and ice cream sandwich. The restaurant also has a special menu for children with crumbed chicken, fish bites, cheese burger, quesadilla and a dessert of ice cream sundae.

To complement the food, the restaurant has a wide range of international and local wines and beers. Being a free house, it is not affiliated with a specific brand, and stocks one of the largest range of beer, wine. Some of the different types of red and white wines which are available are Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Chardonnay, Rose, Shiraz and sauvignon blanc.

Some of the tap beer and cider from the Good George brand are IPA, Pale Ale, Pilsner, Doris Plumb Cider, Apple Cider, Happy wheat. Other tap beers are smoky pallet ale, asahi, Steinlager classic, pure blonde and Stella Artois. The international beers at the bar are Heineken, Corona, Singha, Guinness, Peroni, Pabst Blue ribbon. The bar also stocks locally made beers like Lion Red, Waikaka Draught, and Speights Gold.

Non alcoholic or low alcohol drinks like Heineken 0% and Speights Mid ale 2.5% are also available for customers at a low price of $7. The delicious food and beverages make Smoky Pallet, a popular local hangout in Whangamata.
