Waiheke RSA is the Returned Servicemen Association at Waiheke Island which is about 30 minutes from the capital Auckland by boat. The motto of the RSA is compassion, comradeship, courage and commitment. This club has a nice bar with more than a dozen beers, pokies gaming and super food on offer.

About the Waiheke RSA

The RSA is located at 29, Belgium street on Waiheke Island. It also manages the Ostend War Memorial, a hall which was constructed in 1940’s using public donations of labor, money and government grants. The hall is located at 76, Ostend Road, Waiheke, near the Le Chalet Waiheke Apartments and Putiki Road.

The hall is a community managed venue which can be hired for functions and other activities. The seating capacity for dinner is 120 people and for other functions 140 people can be accommodated. The hire rates for business and for profit are $35 hourly and for non-profits the hourly rates are lower at $22.5. Regular customers may get a discount.

Members of the RSA can enjoy its facilities from 11 am to 10 pm on all days of the week. They can play three games of Housie on Monday in the main lounge. Members can also enjoy indoor bowls and new members are welcome to join. The RSA has recently acquired two new pool tables of the Pot Black brand, for playing 8 ball and other games.

It is planning to compete in the Auckland pool league, and also organize tournaments on the weekend, Members of the public can join the club for line dancing. it also has a cards club for games like Texas Holdem, and these games can also be used for socializing.

For the convenience of its members there is RSA van available from Thursday to Saturday from 4 pm onwards until late at night. It will pick up and drop members to their homes and the charge is just $5 one way.

Members interested in using this service can call on the phone number which is being provided. Discounts are offered for group booking. The RSA can be reached using the bus service on the island or hiring a cab. It can also be reached from Auckland using the regular ferry service.

Getting to Waiheke Island

Getting to Waiheke Island is just so easy from Auckland CBD, a 40-minute ferry ride from Auckland will see you on the island, you can even take your car or bike on the ferry. The ferry will take you through the Hauraki Gulf and past all the scenic islands in the harbour before arriving on the shores of Waiheke. Heaps of ferrys departing all day long from several operators. The Fullers Ferry service runs up to 32 times a day to and from the island.

The Eats and Menu @ Red Poppy

The bar is usually open from 11 am till late daily. The lunch and dinner are served for a few hours in the afternoon and evening. Some of the dishes available at the Red Poppy restaurant are lamb shank, scotch fillet, T bone steak, steak sandwich, mussel pots, stuffed chicken breast, spiced calamari, seafood chowder, thai curry, chefs special, seafood platter with mussel, prawns, calamari, sauces.

Chicken beef, and fish burgers with fries are also available. Some of the small meals available are chicken nibbles, hot dogs and fish goujon. Side dishes include fries, wedges and garlic bread. Vegetarian quinoa rosti is also available.

A platter with multiple items is available for $29 at the restaurant. There are other desserts also available.

The RSA club has a active welfare officer who offers support and advice to the members on various issues of needs. These issues include war pensions, veteran affairs , hospital visits and other help which they may require.

The RSA has mobility scooters, wheelchairs, mobility aids which are available to members on request. These aids are purchased using the funds raised using the Poppy day appeal, and other activities at the club.
