Father Ted’s is an Irish Pub with pokies gaming and a TAB located in the Central Business District of Auckland, New Zealand. For over 9 years Father Ted’s has been serving up a hearty selection of Irish, New Zealand, and international beers, along with a full menu of what they proudly call ¨Authentic Irish and Modern Kiwi¨ fusion meals. With the hospitality of a traditional Irish pub, world-class food, and a seriously unique vibe, this spot is worth a visit if you are about the area looking to eat, drink or watch sports.
Menu and About Father Ted’s
Come in on Sunday afternoon and you will find the loyal crew of Sunday roast enthusiasts. Monday and Tuesday host the rather famous steak night, so please come prepared for the mushroom sauce and a delightful load of mash. Wednesday is pizza night, Thursday is burger night, and my personal favorite that is a must try on Friday’s is the pie of the day.
In addition to the regular specials, Ted’s offers regular menu staples like burgers, seafood, great lasagne, tender steaks and awesome salads available. Almost everything on the menu comes in a wonderfully hearty portion, so be sure to bring an appetite.
The building itself is located across the street from the Civic Theatre on Wellesley Street, just off Queen Street. Upon entering the establishment, you will likely be greeted with the unmistakable smell of homely meals, a warm Irish welcome, and the sound of live music.
Father Ted’s is serious about entertainment and atmosphere. They have live music 7 days a week. The establishment caters to a wide variety of clientele both local and international. You can find everyone from businessmen, backpackers, students, and locals kicking back and relaxing with a pint, singing karaoke, or watching sports games on the big TV’s.
In addition to the live music and karaoke stage, Father Ted’s Irish Pub has a solid pool table, some outdoor seating, and a chill little corner nook with leather chairs and a wood stove for those so are wanting to drink in style.

Pokies and TAB at Father Ted’s Auckland
When we visited them recently Father Ted’s had 18 pokies machines and a TAB, it’s a great gaming lounge in Auckland CBD.
In 2016, Father Ted’s was ranked one of the best 12 Irish bar venues outside of Ireland by Skyscanner, so it does not get any better than that considering how many thousands of Irish Pubs that are on the rock. They were the only location of many Irish Pubs in New Zealand to make the list. It´s not hard to imagine why Ted´s holds such a special place in so many hearts.
The allure doesn’t simply come from the warmth and liveliness that seemingly all great Irish pubs emanate. No, there´s more to it than that. Could it be the super cool bartender, or that the menu alone is enough to create a buzz with exciting and affordable specials all week long. What it really comes down to is the management, the staff, the loyal customers, and the regular visitors who stop by often, all come for the same reason. They come to Father Ted´s for great food, great music, some proper Guinness pours, and the chance to exchange stories, sing a few songs, and have fun day or night.
There are some good spots to grab a bite or a beer in the Auckland CBD, but many are quite pricey or lacking in a certain energy and atmosphere. As many locals have commented, you can get the same $35 steak down the road but right at Father Ted’s it’s just $10. Plus along with a more relaxed and friendly environment and a larger selection or drinks to boot this place just rocks.
